Welcome to the Binary Free Apps section for Patch My PC (PMPC) Cloud.

There are several apps that Patch My PC (PMPC) cannot automate the download of the installer. This can be for several reasons, such as:
You need to purchase a license as the vendor blocks access to the download behind a paywall, which you need to sign in to in order to download the installer.
The installer is offered in a zip archive, which we currently do not support.
Even though some vendors offer a publicly available installer, you need to accept the EULA before you can initiate the download.
We refer to such apps as Binary Free Apps and this feature allows you to deploy these apps using PMPC Cloud.

There are two stages to deploying a Patch My PC (PMPC) Cloud Binary Free App:
To upload the app installer for the Binary Free App:
Download the relevant version of the software from the vendor for the app you wish to deploy.
Login to our portal.
Search for the app in the App Catalog.
Click the app to open its properties.
Note
Notice that both the Deploy and Edit Deployment options are unavailable as this is a Binary Free App that requires you to upload the installer.
Click Manage Files.
On the “<app_name>” Upload file screen, click Add App File.
On the General Information tab, configure the required options for the app, then click Next.
On the Upload File Installer tab, either: a. Click Select Application File and browse to the location containing the app’s installer.
b. Drag and drop the installer file onto this page.
Tip
We suggest you use the download link at the bottom of the page to ensure you download the latest version of the app from the vendor’s official website.
Note
If you select either the wrong file or the wrong version of the file, the Unable to verify the file you are trying to upload. Please ensure you have uploaded the correct file error will be displayed.
This is because we validate the hash of the installer to ensure you are uploading the correct file compared to the version information we have stored in our App Catalog.
If you really need to deploy an older version of the app, deploy it as a Custom App by using the Create a Custom App process.
The hash for the file is calculated as the file is uploaded to your portal.
The portal also shows File Up to Date and the Success – File Successfully Uploaded notification once:
The file has been uploaded successfully.
The calculated hash matches that stored in our App Catalog.
Note
By default, whenever a new version of a Binary Free App is released, we update the version in our App Catalog, which will trigger an update notification to be sent to all users configured in your portal.
See the Manage New Version Notifications for a Binary Free App process to change this.
Once the app installer for the Binary Free App has been successfully uploaded, follow the Deploy an App process to deploy the app.

As Binary Free Apps are included in the Patch My PC (PMPC) App Catalog, we automatically monitor for any new versions and include just the metadata (not the installer) in our App Catalog.
However, we do not automatically:
Notify you a newer version is enabled.
Deploy the updated version of the Binary Free App, as you need to download the latest version of the installer and manually upload it to our portal.
Note
See Update a Binary Free App for more information on updating an existing binary Free App to the latest version.
To configure who receives new version notifications:
If you still have the “<app_name>” Upload file screen open, click Back, otherwise search for the app in the App Catalog and click it to open its properties screen.
On the app’s properties page, click New Version Notifications.
On the “<app-name>” Version Notifications screen, decide whether you want to: • Notify All users in Company (default) – Sends an update notification to all users in your portal whenever a new version of the app is added to our App Catalog.
• Don’t Notify – No users are notified of any updates.
• Notify Specific Users – Allows you to specify which users receive the update notification.
If you want to select either Notify All Users in Company or Don’t Notify any users, select the relevant option then go to Step 8.
If you want to Notify Specific Users, select this option.
Select the relevant email address of the portal users you want to notify from the User Email dropdown, then click Add New Email.
If the user is not listed on the User Email dropdown, enter their email address, press ENTER
, then click Add New Email to add them to the notification list.
The user is added to the notification list.
Tip
Click the trashcan beside a user to remove them from the notification list.
Click Save.
The portal refreshes back to the App Catalog and the Success – Your changes have been successfully saved notification is displayed.
Note
If users do not wish to receive the update notification emails, as per the notification email, they will need to contact you to request this. You will then need to reconfigure update notifications for the app to use the Notify Specific Users option and then create a custom notification list that excludes those users who do not wish to be notified.
