# Search in Patch My PC CVE Insights

*Applies to: Patch My PC CVE Insights*

The *Search* feature of Patch My PC’s (PMPC’s) Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) product, *CVE Insights*, is available across all tabs. Search can be used to search for CVEs by:

* CVE ID
* Vendor or products affected.

As well as searching, you can also use this feature to:

* [Sort search results](#sort-search-results)
* [Clear a Search](#clear-a-search)
* [Filter Results](#filter-results)
* [View CVE Details](#view-cve-details)

To use the Search feature:

1. Click the magnifying glass in the header.
2. On the **CVE Search**, enter your search in the search field (for example, the CVE ID, product or vendor) and click the magnifying glass.\
   \
   Any matching CVEs are displayed.\
   \
   If a patch is available for a CVE, you will see **Patches Available** at the bottom of a search result, along with the number of patches.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note**

Clicking **Patches Available** opens the **CVE Details** page and if you scroll down to the **Patches** section, it will show you whether the patch is currently deployed or not.

You will see **Patches Available** in the search results regardless of whether or not you are signed into your PMPC Company. However, if you want to see the details of any deployments related to the patches, you will need to sign into your PMPC Cloud company.

See [Sign in to your PMPC Cloud Company from CVE Insights](/patch-my-pc-cve-insights/using/settings.md#sign-in-to-your-pmpc-cloud-company-from-cve-insights) for more information.
{% endhint %}

Clicking any of the results will open the **CVE Details** page for that CVE.

## Sort search results

Once you’ve completed a search, you can click the sort button, which opens the **Sort by** dialog, which allows you to control how you want to sort your search results (for example, by the date it was published, updated, score, ascending or descending, etc.).

Click **Apply** to return to your search results, re-sorted by the chosen option.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note**

You can sort the list of CVEs when you open the **CVE Search** page without performing a search.
{% endhint %}

## Clear a Search

To clear a search, click the red **x** in the search box.

## Filter Results

You can also filter the items you see on the **CVE Search** page by clicking the filter button in the top right-hand corner.

On the **Filter** page, complete the required fields and click **Apply**.

The **CVE Search** page updates to show only the results matching your filters.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Tip**

If the filter button has a small green dot beside it, filters are applied and active.
{% endhint %}

Click the filter button in the top right-hand corner to clear filters.

On the **Filter** page, click **Clear All**

The results on the **CVE Search** page update to show only the unfiltered results and the green dot beside the filter button disappears.

## View CVE Details

After clicking a search result, the **CVE Details** page is shown, which shows the following information:

* A banner containing the CVE score and rating.
* A summary section showing:
  * The vendor (if available)
  * Status
  * Date the CVE was published
  * Date the CVE was updated
  * Source.
* The **Add alert** option that lets you [add an alert](/patch-my-pc-cve-insights/using/alerts.md).
* **Description** section that describes the CVE.
* **Products Affected** section, which may contain a list of the products grouped by vendor. If available, it shows the affected version numbers for each product.\
  \
  Next to each product, you can click the Analytics (pie chart) button to open the [Analytics](/patch-my-pc-cve-insights/using/analytics.md) tab.\
  \
  You can also click the Alert (bell) icon to create a new alert for the product, which allows you to add a new alert and automatically adds the selected product to the **Products Impacted** section.
* **General Information** section, containing more detailed CVSS rating information. If different CVSS levels exist for a CVE, they are shown on separate tabs.
* **Patches** section, detailing whether a PMPC patch is available.
* **Related CVE Insights News** section containing any related new articles.
* **External Links** section which contains any relevant external links.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.patchmypc.com/patch-my-pc-cve-insights/using/search.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
